Open Eddington 2019
On Saturday 14 September, Eddington hosts a day of free activities, talks, tours and entertainment for all ages as part of the Open Cambridge Weekend.
There will be live music throughout the day with the unmissable Brass Funkeys, Arco Iris samba band and other live acts – plus a street food market with some of the region’s favourite food trucks.
The day will feature over 20 attractions showcasing Eddington, the University of Cambridge’s new district. Open Eddington explores the ethos of community and sustainability which sit at the heart of the development.
Heather Topel, Project Director of the North West Cambridge Development said: “We are thrilled to offer again a whole day of free public activities and events at Eddington that illustrate the depth and breadth of what Eddington has to offer. We had over 3,000 people visit Eddington at last year’s event and we hope many of our friends, neighbours and supporters – existing and new – will take the time to join us for this occasion.”
At Open Eddington, there will be a range of events that explain how the innovative and unique infrastructure and sustainable features work. Visitors can go behind the scenes of the energy centre, see the unique underground waste and recycling system in action, or go on a walking tour with our project ecologist. Any or all of these events will open your minds to how sustainability has been considered in planning for the community.
Visitors can also get involved with community arts programme ArtScapers, learn about the archaeological dig with a talk from Cambridge Archaeological Unit, enjoy Cambridgeshire’s finest street food such as Steak & Honour, or try out a range of exciting and different bikes at the Try Out Show.
The Universal Bus will be operating a free service on Saturday 14 September as part of Open Eddington. On Saturdays the service runs from the railway station to Eddington via the city centre. For more information visit: http://www.go-whippet.co.uk/
Eddington is a short cycle journey from central Cambridge. There will be very limited parking available so we encourage visitors to use sustainable transport methods to get to Eddington. Drivers can park at the Madingley Road Park and Ride, a short walk from Eddington.
