Tracing Trees Workshop

Saturday 28th June 2025

Location: Storey’s Field Centre

Tracing Trees is a free, two hour outdoor drawing session that introduces the process of rubbing to create artworks using the trees and local landscape of Eddington, led by artist Alastair Kwan.

Participants will be introduced to the process of rubbing to create textured artworks, and will have the opportunity to make their own as part of a guided walk. These impressions will be worked into, multiplied and collaged, creating multi-layered artworks that explore our relationship with trees, resulting in a personal visual diary of Eddington’s natural surroundings.

The sessions will start and end at the Storey’s Field Centre, and include the opportunity to take rubbings from the 430 year old Veteran Oak. No art experience necessary, and all materials including specialist paper for rubbing and graphite will be provided.

Attendance is free but booking is required – click on the links below to secure your place.

Workshop 1: 10am-12noon. Family friendly session specifically aimed for children.

Workshop 2: 12.30pm-2.30pm.

Workshop 3: 3pm-5pm.

The workshop has been commissioned as part of the University of Cambridge’s public consultation programme for the future phases of the Eddington development. The workshop will inform the Public Art and Culture Strategy that is currently being developed by Company, Place, helping to shape ideas of how community, nature, and art can come together.
