Calligraphy Workshop

Thursday 16th June 2022 7:00pm - 9:00pm

Location: Turing Locke

Join Twyla the face behind The Cambridge Quill for a modern calligraphy workshop.

The ancient art of calligraphy has surged in popularity in recent years, and research from University College London has even shown the positive effects that calligraphy and other creative hobbies can have on our emotional health and well-being: being creative can help to relieve stress and combat anxiety, improve wellbeing and boost self-esteem through the improvement of self-development.

The workshop will cover the basics of pointed pen calligraphy, starting from how to prepare your pen and nib, through to learning the basic shapes that make up each and every letter of the alphabet. Once you’ve learnt how to join the shapes together to create letters, you’ll see how to join these together to create words, and by the end of the workshop you’ll be armed with the confidence to go away and create your own beautiful words. At the workshop you will receive your own calligraphy start kit which includes a pen holder, nibs, ink, worksheets and spare paper to practice on, and a luxury blank card, envelope and gift tag for you to put your new skills into practice.

Twyla specialises in greeting cards, wedding stationery and personalised gifts, and has run several Introduction to Modern Calligraphy workshops in Histon where she loves teaching this beautiful, relaxing artform to new people.

Tickets: Free to Locke guests. Non-Locke guests £46.
