Walking tours of Eddington now available
We have teamed up with Visit Cambridge and Beyond to provide tours of Eddington.
Eddington comprises 700 homes for key University staff, Swirles Court (a post-graduate student complex for 325 students), and facilities to support the local community, including the Storey’s Field Centre, University of Cambridge Primary School, Sainsbury’s supermarket, parklands, play areas and sports fields, as well as infrastructure to support connectivity for the development.
Members of the public will be able to book a spot on a tour of Eddington on the second Wednesday and last Saturday of every month. The first public tour will be on April 28, 2018 at 11am. Participants will be asked to pay a refundable deposit of £3 to secure their place.
Tours will include a walk around the public areas of Eddington, with guides providing information about various landmarks as well as origins of Eddington, the development’s aims for housing, community and sustainability, and details about the architecture on the development.
Heather Topel, Project Director of the North West Cambridge Development said: “We are very proud of Eddington and are very excited to be able to show it to Cambridge residents and visitors. The University’s long-term vision for this project is to be a new part of the city with a really strong community and sustainability focus. We hope that members of the public enjoy the tours around the newest area of Cambridge.”
Tours are subsidised by the University of Cambridge and the refundable deposit has been applied in order to manage the bookings process. The deposit is refunded by Visit Cambridge after registration at the booked tour and after the tour has taken place.
Groups who wish to book a private tour of Eddington can also do so through Visit Cambridge and Beyond. Private tours cost £75 for a group of up to 20.
