Planning permission granted for 160 new homes as part of the North West Cambridge Development.

Planning permission has been granted by the Joint Development Control Committee for an additional 160 homes as part of the University of Cambridge’s North West Cambridge Development.

Durkan Homes and Latimer have joined forces on this development which further establishes the residential neighbourhood that exists at Eddington.

The homes are located to the east of the Huntingdon Road Sports Pitches within the development and include a range of homes, from studio, one, two and three-bedroom apartments, and three and four-bedroom homes which incorporate communal landscape and private gardens.

Matthew Johnson, Interim Head of Development for North West Cambridge at the University of Cambridge, commented: “Eddington is a vibrant, multi-cultural urban community which is recognised as an exemplar of sustainability as a result of the University’s vision for the development. We welcome the decision to grant planning consent for this application and look forward to continuing our work with Durkan and Latimer on the delivery of these additional much-needed homes and welcoming residents to our growing community.”

The homes have been designed to enhance the existing landscape and will integrate into the wider community, connecting to the infrastructure on the development that helps residents to lead more environmentally sustainable lives.

Bill Beyzade, Managing Director at Durkan Homes, said: “The decision to grant permission is great news. We are delighted to have secured an agreement with Latimer to deliver the Eddington project, and we’re looking forward to starting work on site this this year. We always strive to build homes of the highest quality and sustainability, and this is an approach we know Latimer shares completely.”

Richard Cook, Group Director of Development for Latimer, said: “Working with like-minded partners such as Durkan Homes is a key part of our approach, ensuring we can build high-quality and sustainable homes for people in the areas where they are needed most. It’s exciting for us to be part of the award-winning Eddington masterplan development, and we look forward to working with Durkan Homes to create a thriving new neighbourhood: a place for the community and not just simply a place to live.”

Eddington has established the heart of a new residential community which is served by a range of facilities including the OFSTED Outstanding-rated University of Cambridge Primary School, Nursery, Supermarket, the Storey’s Field Centre, a hotel, and parklands. It is a vibrant and active neighbourhood with a diverse programme of community events that is open to all.

The masterplan for the 150 hectare site includes homes for University and College key workers, homes for sale, student accommodation and research facilities, in addition to a range of community facilities as an urban extension to the City.
