Eddington Showcased as a National Example of Placemaking

Eddington was highlighted as a leading example of high-quality placemaking at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Parliamentary Reception, held at the House of Lords on Monday 8 September 2025.

The event, sponsored by Lord Best OBE, celebrated excellence in housing and recognised RIBA award-winning projects that have delivered outstanding contributions to design, regeneration and social value. It brought together parliamentarians, architects, and industry leaders to champion the role of great design in helping achieve the Government’s ambition to deliver 1.5 million homes.

Eddington’s recognition at this event reinforces its position as a thriving community and a benchmark for new neighbourhoods across the UK. Combining world-class architecture, sustainable infrastructure, and inclusive public spaces, Eddington established an industry standard in placemaking and the team is thrilled to be alongside some of the Phase one architects: Stanton Williams and WilkinsonEyre at the event.

Matt Johnson, Head of Development for North West Cambridge on behalf of the University of Cambridge, said:

“Eddington is not just about delivering homes – it’s about creating a place where people want to live, work and thrive, while supporting the University as a world-class institution. Being recognised at the House of Lords by RIBA is a powerful endorsement of the quality and vision that underpins Eddington, and of the community we are continuing to grow here in Cambridge. As our plans for the future phases of Eddington emerge we reflect on these achievements and the strong principles of urban design and environmental sustainability which underpin them. We look forward to continuing to provide critically needed homes for the University and City.”

Eddington’s success demonstrates how investment in thoughtful design and community-led planning can deliver long-lasting social value, supporting both present and future generations. Additionally, the University of Cambridge was recently shortlisted for the 2025 Building Awards for Client of the Year for its foresight in developing its estate at Eddington and Cambridge West.
