Douce opens new Concept Store in Eddington
One of Eddington’s independent and popular businesses has relocated to a spectacular new home.
Douce has moved from Eddington Square to an innovative concept space around the corner in Turing Locke, the hotel complex at Eddington, and now offers much more than just a haircut.
Conceived by owner Phil Benton and his girlfriend Sophie Brown, an interior designer, Douce looks amazing. Phil said, “I call it a Concept Store because it is a hairdressing salon with a bar and a café and a small retail area. We are offering a destination with a completely different vibe where people can come for good coffee, handpicked draught beer, or a glass of wine.”
This family business is run by Phil alongside his brother and sister-in-law Nick (bar manager) and Lucy Benton (store manager).
Douce was set up in 2017 when Phil started working from an airstream trailer in Eddington and the surrounding area. Once the UK came out of the pandemic he decided to operate from Eddington full time.
Phil, who grew up in neighbouring Girton, was fascinated by Eddington’s transformation into a new neighbourhood. He said, “When I grew up Eddington was just a field. Suddenly I saw the plans for it and it was really exciting. Shoppers prefer to go to independent businesses and I believe that Eddington can offer a compelling retail alternative to Cambridge’s city centre.”
He added, “We are anchored in the community here and are very popular – our salon is nearly fully booked until Christmas.”
Douce is open 9am-9pm (Monday to Wednesday), and 9am-11pm (Thursday to Saturday). For more information call 01223 659049. Bookings can also be made online at douce.co.uk.
Eddington Square offers opportunities for independent retailers to grow their business and shape the community.
