Daniel Zeichner visits Rubicon in Eddington

On Friday 16 October 2026, Cambridge MP Daniel Zeichner visited Rubicon, an award-winning housing development in Eddington, to see how thoughtful design can help create better homes and stronger communities in Cambridge.

The development, designed by Alison Brooks Architects, has received a prestigious RIBA East Award from the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA), recognising its high standards of architecture and residential design.

Rubicon is part of the University of Cambridge’s Eddington development, which has created a vibrant and long-lasting new neighbourhood in Cambridge. Providing 186 homes, Rubicon brings together market and university housing, with spacious, carefully designed homes arranged around shared landscaped courtyards and communal spaces.

During his visit, Mr Zeichner was shown around Rubicon by the architects and the University’s Head of Development, who explained how the design aims to balance the need for new housing with creating attractive, welcoming places for people to live.

Matt Johnson, Head of Development for North West Cambridge at the University of Cambridge said: “Rubicon is a great example of how the University is making a real contribution to tackling housing challenges in the City. The wider Eddington development is adding thousands of high-quality homes which are affordable for University key workers, easing pressure on the wider rental market as people come to Cambridge to work and study.

“As we look forward to delivery on the future phases, Rubicon will be joined by a series of neighbouring developments all of which will be designed to be great, sustainable and attractive places to live.”

Alison Brooks OBE commented: “I’m delighted to provide Daniel and his team a tour of Rubicon, and hope this scheme demonstrates how mid-rise, low-energy, spatially generous and characterful housing design can successfully anchor new neighbourhoods.”
