Eddington Carnival: A new festival of culture and community
Eddington’s first-ever Carnival will take over the Eddington Cricket Field on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th September, delivering a weekend packed with family-friendly activities, vibrant entertainment, and community spirit.
Following the success of the Eddington Beer Garden earlier in the year, the Eddington Carnival is the next exciting instalment in the area’s popular pop-up series. Open to all, this free event promises to see out the summer in style.
The Eddington Carnival offers plenty of activities for all ages to enjoy throughout the weekend. Visitors can test their skills at the Knights Park with The Hill Group kick zone, get creative with hands-on fun at the Durkan Homes LEGO station or dive into arts and crafts at the Present Made crafting station. There will also be a range of community activities including fitness and wellbeing sessions with Mittfit, R3FORM, and OptiMum, cultural stalls including Woodcraft Folk, and Eddington’s first-ever Camera Obscura.
Little ones can explore the play beach, while families can take part in the Crumb and Bass children’s entertainment activity, bubble fun, and henna art. Classic funfair rides such as the Helter Skelter, haunted house, and teacups will also complete the family offer.
Award-winning housebuilder The Hill Group, developers of Knights Park in Eddington are sponsoring the stage this year, which will host a vibrant selection of performances over the weekend. Highlights include live music from a range of local Cambridge talent such as Cores Do Samba, Mr Griff, Koala Syndicate, The Coe Fen Rhythm Kings, Ghost Carnival, Marina & Johnny and the Eddington Community Orchestra, plus dance showcases including Bollywood, South Asian, Street, and Egyptian/Middle Eastern.
Global flavours will fill the air, with food and drinks trucks offering Guyanese, Indonesian, Italian, Filipino and more. Additionally, charity and hobbyist stalls will offer learning opportunities, games and handmade items for sale alongside the new Eddie’s Café Swap Shop, which offers a place to exchange books and toys within the community.
Biky Wan, Eddington’s Marketing Manager for the University of Cambridge, said: “The Carnival celebrates the vibrant multi-cultural and community focus that makes Eddington a special place. As a growing neighbourhood, we are pleased to welcome residents and neighbours for a weekend filled with music, fitness, food and family fun to our summer event. We’re proud to support local businesses and enterprises, and to bring our wider community together through shared experiences.”
The Eddington Carnival will be open on Saturday 13th September 12pm – 7pm (with food, drink and entertainment running until 8pm) and Sunday 14th September 12pm – 7pm. Entry is free, but guests are encouraged to register in advance so that the organisers can provide the best experience possible.
The inaugural Eddington Carnival will also mark a special milestone as September 2025 marks ten years of Eddington. Over the past decade, Eddington has grown into a thriving community, home to high-quality housing, outstanding facilities, and vibrant public spaces. The Carnival will also offer a chance to celebrate this journey, bring together residents, neighbours, and visitors for a weekend of music, culture, food, and family activities, while looking ahead to the next exciting chapter in Eddington’s story.
