Half term road closures
As part of the construction works for the North West Cambridge development, there are planned road closures within Eddington taking place later this month which will affect car and bus journeys. These works are scheduled around the School’s October Half Term break to reduce the impact on traffic and to the community.
During these works, all businesses in Eddington will remain open and are unaffected.
Road closures
Eddington Avenue (North) at Five Acres
Road closure from 08:00 on Saturday 26 October – 17:00 on Wednesday 30 October 2024
Works are taking place for utility connections by housing developer, Durkan Homes. The closure is a 10m length of Eddington Avenue, at the junction with, and including Five Acres.
Existing utility connections in Eddington should not be impacted by these works.
During this period, there will be no through access to and from Huntingdon Road for motor vehicles, including for buses. Access from Huntingdon Road will be for Knights Park Marketing Suite and the Eddington Sports Pavilion only. For all other access, including to homes at Eddington please use the entrance and exits from the south during this period. Diversions will be in place via Lady Margaret Road between Huntingdon Road and Madingley Road.
Pedestrian and cycle routes will remain open with localised footpath closures only where required for safety, but full access will be maintained with safe crossing points added where necessary.
The Universal bus is able to serve Eddington during this period, but it is unable to continue to Girton during this road closure. Please see alternative bus travel advice below and note the additional alternation for Sunday 27 October also below.
The planned works are expected to be completed on 30 October. Should there be any unexpected delays to the works, the road closure will continue into 31 October – 3 November.
Eddington Avenue (Centre) at Sainsbury’s
Road closure on Sunday 27 October from 07:00-19:00
One of the tower cranes will be removed from the Hill development of The Icon in the centre of Eddington. To enable a safe working area, the central part of Eddington Avenue will be closed for through traffic and for parking. The closure is from the bollards at Eddington Square to the basement car park entrance of Sainsbury’s. Parking bays in the safe working area will be suspended the day before to ensure the area is clear of cars.
Sainsbury’s basement car park will remain open, and access will be via the south only.
On Sunday 27 October, all services for the Universal bus will start and end at the Madingley Park and Ride.
